The Hypocrisy

The Hypocrisy

The father
Hears confession of sin
Offers body and blood of Christ
He resigns to his study
Writes a sermon
Condemning the evils
Evils of the flesh
Evils of the heart
Evils of the mind of the body
A knock on the door
An altar boy for his lesson
Trusting he kneels
Receives his unholy sacrament
Takes the body of man
Shattered trust
Faith no more

Meaning of Life

Meaning of Life

We look for it in our parents
Their guiding light of wisdom cutting the darkness of the unknown
We look for it in our peers
Their ideas, their insight, their support reaching out lifting us up
We look for it in books
Ancient words of discoveries past, tools that inspire and mold
We look for it within ourselves
Reflecting on all that we have learned, striving to connect
We look for it in life
What we can only realize in death, but we can never pass it on

~Arnold Bailey

We are One and so are We

We are One and so are We

Gently I lay her upon the bed
We remove our clothing then hers
I stroke her body
No words are said
She will be our first

My fingers glide across her silken skin
Her face her hips her thighs
She is ready
to let us in
We stare into her eyes

I kiss her subtle lips so red
Sweet release we stroke her breast
The voices
Pound inside my head
Knife still deep within her chest

IT

IT

IT attacked and raped a child
We put IT in a cage
Death shouts one Life shouts the other
But who is to really say

The laws are made to protect us
So long as us are them
The laws are made to punish
But it is innocents we condemn

We release the animal
IT starts life anew
The child’s punishment is for life
But what more can we do

IT attacked and killed a child
We put IT back in its cage
Death shouts one Life shouts the other
But only now we feel the rage

If an animal attacked a child
Not raped or killed… just maimed
We would have the animal “put to sleep”
And not felt any shame

Eternal ME

Eternal ME

I have been a king, a soldier, a killer of men and dreams.
I have been a spear, piercing the heart of life, the blood of all things
I have been a drop of water a tear an ocean
I have been a bird, a dinosaur; a bone nestled deep in the bosom of mother earth
I have been a bug stain on the windshield of life’s passersby
I have been smeared and streaked in a small window of time
I have been a leaf, blowing wild on the wind that I had been
I have been poison and antidote, a drug in the veins of humanity
I have been a great many things and they have been me
And I will be many more things as time keeps vigil
For I can be neither created nor destroyed

The Party

The Party

The door opens wide
The welcome mat lain out
Inviting everyone in.
Love abounds fresh and new
All are met as friends.

In walks Hope and Wonderment
Mrs. Trust and Mr. Care.
The Cherishes have joined the fun
And Compassion is just over there.

Romance came waltzing across the floor
And Jealousy wasn’t far behind
Bringing with him Mr. Lust and Greed
But I didn’t see the signs.

Miss Pettiness made her rounds
And Insecurity came.
Dr. Assurance said worry not
But then the mood had changed

At the bar sat Depression and Doubt
Whom I had not noticed there before.
So I removed the welcome mat
And asked Caution to watch the door.

Just then, Denial took hold of me
And introduced me to Pain.
Anger soon came rushing in
However, I did not say a thing.

I sat down with Confusion
Self-Loathing and Disappointment too.
Then the party had died down
As Somber sang the blues.

Rationalization opened up my eyes
And helped me to clearly see.
So I threw everybody out
Well… all but Misery

The room grew very cold and dark
And where once was an open door
Is now bricked and chained and bolted shut
Love flourishes, never more.

The Wall

The wall

Comes the hurt
Comes the hate
Comes the sorrow
Comes the pain
The wall grows

at one point
at one destination
at one end
at one plane
The wall grows

We reflect
Yet we learn nothing
So to the wall we add a name.
The wall grows

-Arnold Bailey
